Glossary of Terms


The following definitions have been written by Deyss Photography in order to help models complete the intake form. While some of the terms do not apply to Deyss Photography they have been provided to assist new models in navigating through a difficult and sometimes confusing industry.

Adult Nude:

Full body or close-ups of a completely nude exposed model for the explicit purpose of sensationalizing the provocative and sexual areas of the nude body.

Art:

Images taken for the purpose of creative expression by the photographer or model.

Casual:

Full body or close-ups of a relaxed subject in everyday clothing or common apparel.

Compensated
Modeling:

The model receives monetary compensation from the photographer for the shoot. Generally the model retains no rights to use the images, while the photographer retains all rights to the images including, but not limited to use in portfolio, and sale of the images.

Compensated
Photography:

The photographer receives monetary compensation from the model for the shoot. Generally the model retains non- exclusive rights to the images including use in portfolio, and at times even the sale of the images while the photographers retains the rights to use the images in his portfolio and for promotion of himself and his work.

Erotic:

Full body or close-ups with limited or no cover and displaying the entire or partial nude body of the model.

Fashion:

Full body or close-ups of the model with the subject matter being the apparel worn by the model.

Fine Art Nude:

Full body or close-ups with little or no cover for the purpose of creative expression by the photographer or model. At times the model is posed so that the provocative areas of the body are covered by shadow or by the model themselves, while at other times the model is exposed.

Glamour:

Full body or close-ups of the model with the subject matter being the model themselves.

Implied Nude:

Full body and close-ups covered with material or apparel, such as backless bras, to give the illusion the model is nude.

Lingerie:

Full body and close-ups in underwear and other intimate apparel.

Parts Modeling:

Close-ups taken of a model who specializes in just one part of the body such as hands, feet, legs, neck or ears.

Promotions:

Full body or close-ups of model with for purposes of selling a product. May also include onsite modeling during events.

Sports:

Full body actively participating in sporting events.

Swimwear:

Full body in one piece and two piece swimwear.

Time for Images:

Neither the model nor the photographer receives monetary compensation for the shoot. Rather they mutually benefit from each other’s services. The model retains the rights to use images from the shoot in their portfolio but has no right to sell, or otherwise print or distribute the images. The photographer retains all rights to the images including, but not limited to distribution, use in portfolio, and sale of the images.
